Top 5 Yoga Books

1. Yoga & Stress Management by Acharya Yatendra Price INR 149

Yoga & stress management is a therapeutic guide for those dealing with mental and physical stress.

Books like them may or may not help you directly, but indirectly they make you aware of wrong habits, rituals, schedules that you follow every day. Your conscious/subconscious mind make changes with/without you noticing it.  So when I saw “Yoga & Stress Management” by Acharya Yatendra, I thought of reading it, before age and stress made me visit doctors/consultants for the same.

You know the first thing I did when I started the book, I filled the stress test. I am glad my score is below 50 which means I am not stressed. But the book changed the way I nurture thoughts.

My point is book starts with a stress test and then explain to you what is stress, what are the different types of stress are there. Following that comes minerals, vitamins, and food intake section. The gem of the book is 14 advises, I loved them. That section follows the actual Yoga Asana & Pranayama.

Those who are thinking that the book is full of Asana & Pranayama are wrong. The book is written with full Yoga as subject to help our stress levels. And if you are aware that you must be knowing yoga is not just Asana & Pranayam. The book has done justice to both stress management & yoga.de

3. Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha by Swami Satyananda Saraswati

It’s an awesome book on Yoga, Pranayama and Mudra. It’s very detailed and simplified. A Lot of pictorial information is provided for almost all types of Asana. A Yoga Practitioners library is incomplete without this book.

Swami Satyananda Saraswati was the disciple of Swami Sivananda and became a wandering mendicant and he founded the International Yoga Fellowship in 1963 and the Bihar School of Yoga in 1964. He now lives as a paramahamsa sannyasin.

Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha is recognised internationally as one of the most systematic yoga manuals available today. This enlarged and revised edition provides clear illustrations, step by step directions and details of chakra awareness.

This book is very good. It is suitable for both the beginner and advanced students. I was impressed with the fact that it started with exercises for beginners that are often not covered in other yoga books.

These really basic exercises prepare the beginners for the main poses, and saves them struggling to get into the basic poses for lack of fundamental flexibility. The book goes on to advanced levels via a progressive system.

A very well written set of instructions that are easy to understand and execute. Sufficient cautionary texts to highlight when certain practices should not be done. This manual should be used in conjunction with the different wall charts for clarification and easy reference.

4. Adiyogi: The Source of Yoga by Sadhguru

This is a one of a kind book, exploring Shiva in a unique way.

This is a book about Shiva – the first Yogi who transmitted the knowledge to disciples, many centuries back. The book has several things going for it: the descriptions have an intensity and it is almost as if you can feel the magnetic pull of Shiva as you read.

The myths which are included are all exceptionally good, though many are common knowledge in the Indian culture. Sadhguru’s perspective of Shiva as one who can take you to the depths of yourself – destroying all that is impermanent and make believe is interesting There are also fresh perspectives and insights at many instances while the myths are discussed – on Shiva’s practice, valor, balance, compassion and selflessness.

While the mythology makes for great reading, the pseudo-science which figures especially in the initial stages was entirely avoidable.

The writing style is variant – there are sentence constructs which are repetitive and detracts from the narration – for instance every 10 sentences in Section 3, you will find a phrase about Sadhguru laughing. While the last section also purports to raise several questions, many are left unanswered. However, that may also be because each person has to find his own way.

Adiyogi is symbol and myth, historic figure and living presence, creator and destroyer, outlaw and ascetic, cosmic dancer and passionate lover, all at once.

Adiyogi The Source of Yoga Brilliantly written – Arundhati Subramaniam’s descriptions are beautiful and sharply evocative. Sadhguru’s insights are as always deeply inspiring and relevant. The book overall is incredibly well put together; there is a story, myth, reflection and education in equal measures throughout. Highly recommended.

5. Yoga Mudras: The Power Bank of the Human Body by KB Joshi

Learners should have the five Ws in their mind: Why, What, When, Where and Who. This is the general philosophy of a person who is keen to learn new things. The same concept is explored in this book. How do Yoga Mudras affect our body? Where and when can we do them?

A very nice book taking you back to the ancient times where you can experience the magic of Yoga in form of simple mudras yet powerful & relaxing. Thanks to the author for exploring these mudras and publishing a book which will be beneficial to the people reading & preaching the same across.

Crisp, concise but helpful info of a complex topic

The book explains the mudras in crisp, concise manner. As someone practicing yoga and meditation, this will be a good addition to your routine. For others too, it can be helpful as mudras doesn’t necessarily require separate dedicated time to practice. This book is a good way to start something beneficial.
